Shivers
This is a 1975 Canadian science fiction body horror film
written and directed by David Cronenberg.
The Plot
Residents of a suburban high-rise apartment building are
being infected by a strain of parasites that turn them into mindless,
sex-crazed terrors out to infect others by the slightest sexual contact.
This is a very bizarre film. It is a much less gory film as I
intended for it to be. I did like the film but not as much as Rabid.
The acting in this film is very good and the score to this
film is good as well.
I did find at the start of the film when there is a voice
over and the man is talking about Starliner Island it was very interesting.
This film isn’t shocking as I thought it would be although
at the time it came out it probably would be shocking.
There are some great scenes in this film. When the man
throws up and the blood lands on an old woman’s umbrella; thought it was funny.
When the professor attacks the young girl and he then cuts her open. Then after
that he cuts he’s throat that scene was very weird.
Some of the scenes are very bizarre and bit sexual at times.
Which it didn’t bother me too much. It isn’t too gory so almost anyone could
watch it if like horror and weird films.
I did like the ending to the film. I thought the ending was
great, probably my favourite part. Croneberg directing in this film is very
good.
Overall, I thought the film was alright. I prefer Rabid to
this though. I would still recommend this but it is really bizarre and lot of
sexual orientated stuff happens a lot. This film is not for everyone but if you
like horror and weird films I think this is right up your alley!
