Shock
This is a 1946 American film noir and thriller directed by
Alfred L. Werker. The film stars: Vincent Price, Anabel Shaw, Lyn Bari, Frank
Latimore and Michael Dunne.
The Plot
It’s about a psychiatrist, Dr. Cross, who is treating a
young woman in a coma-state after she witnesses a murder. As she comes out of
her state, she recognises who the killer is.
Well, this film is very short but good. It is in black and
white, which I found very fascinating. This is the first time ever I have seen
a film made in the 1940’s which made me very interested in the film a lot more.
I found this film to be enjoyable weather or not it’s in black and white or in
colour.
The score to this film I really liked a lot. It in intrigued
me more into the film and made the atmosphere tense at times when it needed to
be.
I found the acting in this film very good. It was well acted
and there was not one actor/actress who gave a poor performance.
There are some interesting scenes in this film. I really
liked the scene when the woman hears a man and a woman arguing. She then
witnesses the man hitting the woman with a candlestick and the man didn’t notice
her at all. That was quite interesting. Another scene, when Dr Cross visits the
woman in coma. He then knocks on the table several times and she identifies him
as the murderer. That was weird when the Dr was knocking on the table several
times as if he was trying to scare the woman.
The plot to this film I found was very intriguing. I really
liked the whole story idea to this film. This is the film Vincent Price film I have
seen, can’t wait to review more of Vincent Price’s films he has been in, for
you.
The only downside is you do hear little crackle now and
then. That is because it is in black and white and has been transferred to DVD.
It didn’t bother me too much but I thought I’d let you know about that.
Overall, I really liked this film a lot – although it was
short. I thought the acting was great! I highly recommend you see this film if
you have seen other Vincent Price films or are new to film noir. It is great
for any film lovers!
