ZoeMovieReviews: Day Of The Dead (1985)

Day of the Dead (1985)

This is a 1985 American horror film written and directed by George A. Romero. It is the third film in Romero's Dead series. The first film in the series is Night of the Living Dead (1968) and Dawn of the Dead (1978) is the second film. The director describes the film as a "tragedy about how a lack of human communication causes chaos and collapse even in this small little pie slice of society".

The Plot

A small group of military officers and scientists inhabit in an underground bunker as the world above is overrun by zombies. Scientists conduct experiments to understand the virus that turned humans into flesh-hungry zombies.

I really liked this film a lot. I wasn’t too sure at first as I knew it’ll be gory but I actually didn’t mind the gore at all. I thought it would bother me, but it didn’t – yay!

Let me just warn you guys if you don’t like gore and seeing the insides of a person then this isn’t the type of film for you. The zombies were brilliant in this!! They looked realistic as well.

I thought it was cool that Dr. Logan (the lead scientist) was trying out different experiments on the zombies. I liked it when he taught one of the zombies how to press play on the music device. I thought it was cool.

I honestly felt sorry for one of the zombies in this film. When the zombie finds out Dr. Logan dies, he shows real sad emotion and that’s when I felt sorry for him. That is why I couldn’t care less if Rhodes died and got eaten to bits.

I thought that part where the zombie was shooting Rhodes a military officer was great. Then Rhodes gets eaten to pieces by the zombies I thought that was pretty awesome and you can see all the zombie’s happily munching away off Rhode’s body.

I liked it when the man opens the barbed wired gate and all the zombies go after him. Then of course eats him! That was so cool.

There were so many other great scenes in this. I loved every bit of this film. The acting of the zombies was amazing and the acting of the military and the other actors/actresses was great as well.

The score to this film was great. It went well with the film. I think in my opinion this is one of the best zombie horror films out there. The arrow video film release to this is great, which is an awesome cult film company that sells awesome movies like this. I shall link the site to arrow video here. Arrow Video Films Website

Overall, I loved this film. The zombies were brilliant and the acting was great. The score of this film was amazing. I highly recommend this film if you love horror, gore, zombies or a big fan of George A Romero’s work – but has yet to see this one.

Rating: 10/10 !!
