The Toxic Avenger

This is a 1984 American superhero film released by Troma Entertainment. The Toxic Avenger caught on with filmgoers after a long and successful midnight movie engagement at the famed Bleecker Street Cinemas in New York City in late 1985. It now is regarded as a cult classic. The film has generated three film sequels, Toxic Avenger Part II and The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie, were filmed as one. A third sequel was released, titled Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV. A fourth sequel entitled The Toxic Avenger 5: Toxic Twins is planned for a future release.

 

The Plot

Tromaville has a monstrous new hero. The Toxic Avenger is born when mop boy Melvin Junko falls into a container of toxic waste. Now evildoers will have a lot to lose.

 

Wow this film is a lot of fun! I thoroughly enjoyed this! It’s a great cult classic Troma film. Well, all I can say is it’s not for anyone who can’t cope with gore. I guess it is safe to say I do quite enjoy watching horror movies with gore in them – it’s a lot of fun!

 

Well, this soundtrack I loved it. It’s very cheesy 80s music, songs I have never heard of but they were very catchy and fun for sure. I do love the Body Talk song in it the most. Thought it was great and somewhat annoying catchy tune.

 

There are so many great scenes in this film. I thought it was kind of funny when Bozo and he’s friends ran over the kid on the bike in the film. The bit where the women get out of the car and take photos of the dead kid I thought that was very bizarre!

When Melvin (before he becomes Toxie), goes on a ‘date’ with Julia that was extremely funny. There are so many great witty scenes like that!

 

The scene when Melvin turns into the toxic avenger that was pretty cool. Then when he sorts out some of the criminals out the different ways he does is so awesome. For example: when he puts the guys hands in the fryer and he shoots one of the guys arms off I thought that was cool.

 My favourite bit was when Toxie rips out the fat Mayors intestines that was brilliant. And Toxie says “You fat slob. Let's see if you've got any guts.” That was so funny.

In this film you actually care about Toxie. The first time he is the Toxic avenger and he goes back to he’s parents’ house and he’s mom shuts the door on him. I felt sorry for him. I think Toxie is a cool character to be honest; he saves people’s lives and gets rid of the criminals in the town. He also kicks ass.

 

The acting in this film was great. They all did a great job, although some scenes were a bit over the top cheesy acting. I didn’t mind it too much, because it’s just a fun Troma film.

 

Overall, I really enjoyed this film. Its brilliant and the soundtrack is great! The acting was alright. There are some really cool gory scenes in this. It isn’t for people who can’t cope with gore. I would highly recommend this film it’s fun and cheesy.  It’s a great 80s Troma film. If you have seen Class of Nuke ‘em high you will love this!! If you like cheesy fun horror films you may like this as well.
