The Plot
This film revolves around a series of murders taking place
in a New England home–a home which happens to be hiding a particularly gruesome
secret within its basement walls. In New York, Dr. Norman Boyle assumes the
research about Dr. Freudstein of his colleague Dr. Petersen, who committed
suicide after killing his mistress. He heads to Boston with his family to live
in an isolated house in the woods that belonged to Dr. Petersen. Bob befriends
the girl Mae that only he can see and she warns him to leave the house. Soon
his parents hire the mysterious babysitter and creepy things happen in the
house. When the son goes to the basement, his parents discover the secret of
the house.

This film is really good. I liked it a lot. Recently nowadays
I seem to like more horror films, which is great because horror is an awesome
genre in film.
The opening scene to
this was great. A woman is looking for her boyfriend in the house and discovers
his body stabbed with scissors. The woman gets stabbed and the knife goes from
the back of head and straight through her mouth and her body is dragged through
a cellar door.

The score in this film is superb!! It really does suit the creepy
atmosphere of this film. The acting throughout is great, although the little
boy was little annoying at times.
There are so many gory lovely scenes in this, so beware! If
you don’t like gore then don’t watch this. Well, most horror films do have gore
in them I suppose…
The scene when the bat was biting Normans hand was really
cool. I loved the scene when there was just blood covering the gravestone and
seeing all the gory organs and body bits. Another great scene was when the
girls looking at the shop window and one of the mannequins head just rolls off –
I liked that!! It was kinda creepy.

I thought the different kills Dr. Freudstein did to the
people in the house was really cool. I thought it was clever that each time
someone went into the creepy basement they’d get killed. It would always happen
when they trying to escape by walking back up and the door is unlocked so the
person can’t escape.
Overall, I really liked this film a lot. There are some
really great scenes in this. I liked the creepy vibe the mansion had in the
film. The acting was great and the score suited the film so well. This is a
great classic Italian horror! Great watch, I recommend this if you like horror
or you are specifically new to watching Italian horror.
